There is much we don’t know, much we’ll never know about the substance of the almost 70-year reign of the woman born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. Of this she must have been painfully aware, for she soldiered on, always-well, almost always-with a smile and that wave, like a limp flag in a puff of air.ĭid she chafe at such things, as her Philip sometimes did? We’ll never know.
